ideal world an alternate universe marvel + dc roleplay
synopsis The world is once again in an age of heroes. After the events of New York, the world has been in chaos, with threats to the world's safety coming more often than they ever have. SHIELD could no longer conceal the presence of metahumans, and when they fell, taken down from the inside by Hydra, they left humanity vulnerable to threats it never could have imagined, until the forces of evil managed to rupture the divide between universes. With the fate of the world balancing upon the shoulders of these rising heroes, just where will your place be in this new ideal world?

ideal world is an alternate universe Marvel + DC roleplay hosted on Jcink Premium since December 2016. Set following the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Justice League, and X-Men: Apocalypse, we are based primarily within the cinematic universes but with more than enough flexibility to allow for inspiration to be drawn from other sources, such as comics, video games, television series, animated shows, and more. We pride ourselves on our relaxed environment and easy-going nature to create a safe and welcoming community for all of our members.

december newsletter

Hello everyone! It's been a good while since we've had a newsletter, but given the fact that it's now our one year anniversary, we felt it would be apt to unveil some of what we have in mind all at once! That's right, one year ago we were opening our doors to you guys, and what a year it's been. We're all so proud to stay open for so long, and we absolutely could not have done it without all of you lovely sweethearts. It's been such an honor to be able to provide you all with a home, and I hope you'll be willing to let us keep doing so for many more months to come.

Anyway, awkward rambling about how much we love you guys aside, let's get to the big points, right?

new skin

Are you ready for this beautiful new skin that Kira spent her Thanksgiving Break (and the period right before) stress-coding? Please say yes, it makes her feel better. Well, whether you are or not, Everybody Knows is our brand new skin, and will be for the foreseeable future. It's nice, it's neat, it's fairly easy to deal with, and it has made Kira cry at least once, so we know it is a good skin probably. We currently have our Justice League variant up, but stay tuned for more variations in future months (Kira coded a lot of them and she is prepared to slowly leak them for the next while).

As per always, if you happen to spot any major issues (or what seems like major issues), please contact Kira as soon as possible to perform coding support. Screenshots of issues are appreciated for non-coloring related issues. And yes, we're aware there's some issues with the default avatar coding, we're working on a solution.

Alternatively, if you hate this skin and everything it stands for or just need a different layout, you can also go back to your user control panel and select "The World" or either "Alumina" skin option. While the staff listings may be out of date, the most wanted canons discontinued, and the cbox colors set to the new skin, everything else will remain perfectly functional for you to continue about your lives on past skins.

staff changes

With Juno and Stargirl sadly no longer active, we've had to go through a few staffing changes. As such, we would like to welcome Lily as a full member of our staffing team, Please treat her with respect and kindness. She is soft and gentle. We do not wish to scare her away.

On a somewhat related note, Kira will be beginning a much more demanding portion of her schooling starting next month and continuing for the following several months. It will be stressful. She will probably cry. A lot. But she is still planning to be around and try to get things done around the forum (namely what we'll be covering in our next section), so please just try to be patient with our staff team while we slow down a bit and try to readjust the burden where we can. Please do not bully the other staff in Kira's absence. She will be very disappointed in you. Please do not bully Kira either. She will also be very disappointed in you.

site build adjustments

After some serious considerations, we've decided that we're going to be using this month to start overhauling the site lore. Between our own experiences across the last year, especially in regards to the events, and your own responses to our feedback survey, we've opted to start working towards two adjustments through the course of this month (ideally, Kira would have had this together for this month in time for our birthday, but there just were not enough hours in the day for her to manage to do everything in time, so sadly, we're going to have to do this in increments across the course of the month). Please keep in mind that right now, this is just a preview of what we're going to be doing, so these changes will be going up over the course of the next month slowly, so please just be patient with us while we make these transitions. We won't be closing during this period of cleaning house though, so we'll be trying to get through these officially as soon as possible.

The first of these adjustments is that we are going to be disregarding the registration plotline entirely, along with our previous site events, and resetting our cinematic framework for major world events. We're going to be officially setting ourselves up for post Captain America: The Winter Soldier for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and rearranging our DC Extended Universe so as to include Justice League, which for all intents and purposes, doesn't really actually change much beyond moving our base year of reference and removing the plotline that we've just not seen much interest in. Unfortunately, at this time, we'll be unable to do a lot with the X-Men Cinematic Universe beyond establishing that we are going with the revised timeline simply because of how it isn't developed enough to really fit in as seamlessly with the rest of the universe. We do hope to fix this as more material comes out for us to work with, though.

Connected to this, we'll be moving applications around at some point this month to unlock them for people to tweak them into shape (don't worry we'll send out a mass alert when we do and if memory serves us, most people shouldn't have issues much beyond editing out the registration status and updating ages), as well as archiving old threads so that members can request for them to be moved back (or simply repost them). We're not sure what this is going to mean for this month's activity check right now, so it'll probably depend on how quickly Kira pushes things through and so on, so keep an eye out for news. We'll try to be fair about what we're asking for though, so no worries on that front.

Our second change is that, unfortunately, given our current workload, we'll have to be temporarily suspending any site timeline progression as we move more towards a different system that is more loosely done. This will be bleeding over into the events since we'll be redesigning their structure to better suit the site's needs and interests, so in the meantime while we figure things out and are in a more stressful period, we will be temporarily suspending events for the time being. Although this is something where we have no date in mind to resume things, we do plan on bringing the system back without an amazingly long delay, so again, just have patience with us while we work through the kinks.

parting words

Once again, we just want to say thank you so much to each and every one of you who have stuck around with us and helped us make this place feel like a good family. We love all of you and if it weren't for you guys, we wouldn't be here celebrating our one year anniversary, and for that, we are so very grateful. We are so proud to be able to say we're looking after you, and we hope that you'll be sticking around with us for many more birthdays to come as we work to make the site bigger and better and more reason for Kira to cry into her tea.

december newsletter

Thank you for everyone's patience with the lore updates! We appreciate your understanding for things like this (Kira is many things, but a miracle worker is not one of them, and we are very grateful to her taking time out when she's working on finals and papers to give us a skin update and a lore update), and we'll try to make this as painless as possible.

As you may have noticed, everyone's application has been moved to the Update Pending board again and been unlocked. This isn't so much because everyone has major edits to do but more since what's being done isn't necessarily something the staff can do themselves. Everyone's character needs to have their ages fixed (either by setting the age back so it's done as of December 31, 2014 or adjusting the birth year to match the age under the new date), any mentions of the registration plotline or past site events removed from their biography, and change the registration status point under the other tab to original earth (the values for which are prime earth or alternate earth, with an option to specify a general type of universe the earth is). If you want a little more detail about how to deal with things, you can consult our bright new Application Guide.

Everyone will stay approved and have their claims still valid during this process, so no worries on that front. We'll need you to do this for the check at the end of the month, just to make sure it gets done. Be sure to toss a bump on the app when you get everything updated so we can swing by, relock it, and move it back where it belongs.

In addition, we've opted to create a new subboard within our Alternate Realities board to allow for everyone to continue threading within the old plotline if they like. All of the old threads were moved there, to make it easy on us, so we don't have to sort through what is good and what isn't, but don't worry! If your thread is still compatible with the new plot, just hit us up in the Mod Request and ask us to move it back, and we'll be more than happy to do so. It just seemed like the fairest option to offer, so we hope it'll appease the people who were disappointed with the retirement of our old plotline.

As a parting note, we will confirm that our activity check for December will not require a post, since we feel it's unfair to ask that of everyone when we've been working through a lore update, so while you will still need to log in your post as per usual, please enjoy the holiday present of no posting pressure this month!

Ideal World was established in December 2016 as a site idea by Kira from the assorted Marvel, X-Men, and DC Cinematic Universes and with heavy inspiration from other sources, namely the original comics by Marvel and DC.

Everybody Knows skin created by Kuroya of OOC exclusively for Ideal World, so please do not rip or steal. Assorted icon macros come courtesy of Font Awesome, customizable code boxes and cbox toggle come thanks to Nicole of Shine, the modal popups are by Black of Code, and the tooltip styling was originally by Malihu. ; all edits were made by Kuroya.

All posts and content belong to their original owners, so please do not steal them.
